Cremation Services

Tigard has no hospital of its own. The nearest is Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center at 19300 SW 65th Avenue in Tualatin, immediately south of town. The larger tertiary center is Providence St. Vincent on SW Barnes Road to the north.

Three licensed hospice agencies keep offices in Tigard itself, which is unusual for a city this size: Signature Healthcare at Home at 7632 SW Durham Road, Serenity Hospice at 11481 SW Hall Boulevard, and Tenderly Hospice at 7150 SW Hampton Street. Legacy Hospice works from Borland Road in Tualatin and Gracious Care from Hall Boulevard in Beaverton.

We collect from all of these, and from private homes and care facilities, at any hour. If your person is on hospice service, their nurse can call us directly.

Our partner facility is in Portland, roughly ten miles from Tigard by way of Interstate 5 or Highway 99W. Outside rush hour that is fifteen to twenty minutes each way. Ninety-nine W is the same road Young’s Funeral Home sits on, so this is a familiar drive rather than a distant one.

We are available at any hour of the day or night, including weekends and holidays. There is no additional charge for an after-hours or weekend transfer, and we cover Tigard, King City and Durham at the same price.

Washington County Vital Records is at 155 N First Avenue, Suite 170, MS-5, Hillsboro, OR 97124, inside the Charles D. Cameron Public Services Building. The number is 503-846-3538. The counter is open weekdays 8:30 to 4:30, with a few later openings each month.

Certified copies are $25.00 each, first copy and every additional copy alike, with no discount for ordering several. In person you can pay by cash, check, money order or card. By mail it must be a check or money order.

One deadline is worth marking. The county can only issue a certificate within roughly five months of the death. After six months the record moves to Oregon Health Authority state vital records at 971-673-1190, where mail orders can take three to five weeks. If you think you may want more copies later, order them early. We order certificates for the families we serve at $30 each and file the record for you, so that clock is our concern rather than yours.

The picture here changed recently and a good many funeral home pages have not caught up. The Portland Tribune stopped printing in June 2025 and is now digital only, so a print Tribune obituary is no longer something that can be bought.

The Times, which covers Tigard and Tualatin, now runs obituaries through portlandtribune.com. The number is 503-492-5143, two photographs is the maximum, and pricing is quoted by word count on a callback rather than from a published rate card.

The Oregonian remains the regional paper of record and starts at $264 through its obituary desk, which includes a permanent online memorial page. A complete obituary on this site, with photographs, is included in our price at no charge.

Oregon sets no state law governing where cremated remains may be kept or scattered. Ashes may stay at home, be divided among family members, be buried, or be scattered on private land with the owner’s permission. Scattering on federal land generally requires a permit, and rules differ by agency.

Scattering at sea is available through us for $195.

Crescent Grove Cemetery and Mausoleum at 9925 SW Greenburg Road is the local answer, near the Washington Square end of town. They offer indoor columbarium niches inside the mausoleum, urn gardens, and a scatter garden, with pre-arrangement plans available. The number is 503-639-5347.

Winona Cemetery in Tualatin is the other nearby ground. Sunset Pioneer Cemetery on Pacific Highway is historic rather than active, so it is not an option for a new interment.

Every item below is something a family can claim and most families never hear about. They are listed in the order we would go through them with you on the phone.

Begin with the $255 lump-sum death payment from Social Security. A surviving spouse is first in line, then a child aged 17 or under, 18 or 19 and in full-time school, or disabled before 21. It has to be claimed, and the window is two years from the date of death. Call 1-800-772-1213 on a weekday between 8:00 and 7:00. Starting online through a my Social Security account works for some claims. If you prefer in person, an appointment is now required and ssa.gov/locator has the current offices. We leave the addresses to Social Security, since theirs is the only list that is right on the day you read it.

If the person was a veteran, start here before anything else. Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mount Scott Boulevard in Portland, is the nearest VA national cemetery, at 503-273-5250. It has space for both casketed and cremated remains. The office is open weekdays 8:00 to 4:30 and the grounds daily from 7:00. From Tigard it is about fifteen miles east.

The VA states it plainly, so we will use its words. Included at no cost to the family: a gravesite where there is space, opening and closing of the grave, perpetual care, a Government headstone or marker, a burial flag, and a Presidential Memorial Certificate. Cremated remains are inurned “in the same manner and with the same honors as casketed remains.” Spouses and dependent children are eligible at no cost, sharing the veteran’s headstone rather than receiving a separate one. A surviving spouse who remarried after the veteran died is still eligible, and this is the detail families most often assume away. When the time comes, the National Cemetery Scheduling Office handles it on 1-800-535-1117. Fax the discharge paperwork to 1-866-900-6417 first.

Beyond the cemetery there is an allowance. A death not connected to service draws $1,002 for burial and $1,002 for a plot under the rates effective October 1, 2025, filed on Form 21P-530EZ within two years of the burial. The part that catches people: use a national cemetery and the plot allowance does not apply, there being no plot to pay for. One or the other. The VA benefits line is 1-800-827-1000.

Your county veteran service office will file the VA paperwork for you, free, and correctly, which is worth more than it sounds. Washington County Veteran Services is at 5240 NE Elam Young Parkway, Suite 300, Hillsboro, on 503-846-3060. That is about twelve miles northwest of Tigard. If the person was enrolled in a federally recognized tribe, that call comes before every other item here. Two Oregon tribes publish real money and both keep Portland offices. The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde pay up to $7,000 to the funeral home plus $400 toward a reception, for enrolled members and their spouses, parents and children under 25, and tribal cemetery plots cost members nothing; Member Services 1-800-422-0232 extension 2253, Portland office 4445 SW Barbur Boulevard at 503-879-1881. The Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians pay up to $6,000 plus a $1,000 death benefit and require no application, only notice to Enrollment; 541-444-2532, Portland office 3220 SW 1st Avenue at 503-238-1512.

Bureau of Indian Affairs burial assistance of up to $3,500 is separately available to indigent enrolled members through the Northwest Regional Office at 911 NE 11th Avenue, Portland.

Homicide changes what you owe. Oregon’s Crime Victims’ Compensation program at the Department of Justice pays up to $5,000 to the funeral provider directly, and can go further case by case, as well as covering crime scene clean-up and grief counseling for the family. The two deadlines are unforgiving: the crime must reach police within 72 hours and the application must be in within one year. The Oregon position surprises people who expect the Washington one. There is no county indigent cremation program here at all. Instead the state runs the Oregon Indigent Disposition Program through the Oregon Mortuary and Cemetery Board, under ORS 97.170, at 971-673-1504. Two features to grasp: the payment goes to the funeral establishment as partial reimbursement, never to the family, so there is no family application; and eligibility rests on the body being unclaimed. Sign a contract to pay and the person is, in law, no longer indigent. If money is the barrier, say so to us before anything is signed.
