What does a Ridgefield cremation cost?
Our simple cremation is $1,194, plus $110.80 in local fees: $100.00 to the Clark County Medical Examiner and $10.80 to Washington State. That is the whole price, and every part of it is published.
Ridgefield has one funeral home of its own, Northwood Park on NE 15th Avenue, which is also the city’s cemetery and mausoleum. Their direct cremation is $1,395 if you supply the container and $1,595 with their cheapest one, on a price list effective January 2026. The rest of the choice is in Vancouver.
One provider in Vancouver comes in fractionally under us. Davies Cremation and Burial on East McLoughlin publishes $1,185 with the container included, which is nine dollars less than our price. We are not going to pretend that is a difference worth arguing about. Davies is owned by Service Corporation International and trades as Dignity Memorial, the largest funeral company in North America, so what you are choosing between is not really two prices. It is a national firm and an independent one that happen to charge almost the same for the cremation itself. Compare what each price leaves out, and what you are offered after you call.

Every figure includes the cheapest cremation container that provider offers. Northwood Park’s adds $200 to their advertised price and Evergreen’s adds $95, which is why the advertised figures and these differ. Layne’s in Battle Ground and Woodland Funeral Home publish no price. Under the FTC Funeral Rule they must give you one on request. The $110.80 in Clark County medical examiner and Washington State fees applies to every provider listed, ours included.

Ridgefield Cremation Information
Ridgefield has grown faster than almost anywhere in Washington, from under 5,000 people to more than 16,000 in fifteen years, and a good deal of the local infrastructure has not caught up. These are the questions we are asked most, answered for Clark County specifically.
Where are you located? Can I come in to make arrangements?
Our service area is seven counties across two states: King, Pierce, Snohomish and Clark in Washington, and Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas in Oregon. The administrative office and the arrangement counselors sit in King County.
Our partner crematory and transportation center are in Portland, about twenty-four miles south of Ridgefield by way of Interstate 5 and the Interstate Bridge. We collect at any hour, with no additional charge for a night or weekend transfer.
The honest part. There is no office here you can walk into to make arrangements, and that is deliberate. Buildings, front counters and the staff to sit at them are most of what a traditional funeral home is charging you for. Ours is a licensed staff and a phone. Arrangements are made online or by phone, whenever suits you. If you would rather do this face to face, that is a fair preference and you should follow it.
Which hospitals and hospice agencies do you collect from near Ridgefield?
Ridgefield has no hospital. The closest by some distance is Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center at 2211 NE 139th Street in Vancouver, about seven miles south on Interstate 5, and it is where most Ridgefield residents who die in the hospital die. PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center at 400 NE Mother Joseph Place is thirteen miles south and is the region’s Level II trauma center, so transfers and sudden deaths often end there instead.
For hospice, Eden Hospice of Clark County at 2621 NE 134th Street names Ridgefield explicitly in its service area; the number is 360-425-8510. The PeaceHealth Ray Hickey Hospice House at 2112 E Mill Plain Boulevard is the inpatient facility for the county and is open around the clock. PeaceHealth Southwest, Kaiser Permanente and Providence all provide hospice at home here as well.
We collect from all of these, and from private homes and care facilities, at any hour. If your person is on hospice service, their nurse can call us directly.
How long does it take you to reach Ridgefield?
Our partner facility is in Portland, about twenty-four miles south. The route is State Route 501 east to Interstate 5 at Exit 14, then south through Salmon Creek and Vancouver and across the Columbia on the Interstate Bridge. In free-flowing traffic that is a little over half an hour.
The city’s own material says twenty minutes to Portland, which is true at six on a Sunday morning and not at five on a Tuesday. We would rather quote you the honest figure. We are available at any hour of the day or night, and there is no additional charge for an after-hours or weekend transfer.
One thing worth understanding: the Columbia is a state line. A death in Ridgefield is a Washington death and is registered in Washington, even though the cremation itself takes place in Oregon. We handle both sides of that.
How do I get certified copies of a Ridgefield death certificate?
There is no vital records counter in Ridgefield, but you have more choice than you might think. Any local health department in Washington can issue a certified copy of a Washington death record, regardless of which county the death happened in. So the county line is not what decides where you go; convenience is. Service charges and walk-in hours vary by office, so call ahead.
For most Ridgefield families that still means Vancouver. Clark County Public Health, Vital Records is at 1601 E Fourth Plain Boulevard, Building 17, Suite A327, Vancouver, WA 98661. The number is 564-397-8092.
The first certified copy is $38.50. Additional copies are $25.00 each, and there is a $10.00 order fee per transaction, so five copies in one order comes to $148.50. In person takes twenty to thirty minutes, and mail or online orders ship within three business days. The counter is closed on Tuesdays for in-person service.
Washington limits who may receive a death record to spouses and domestic partners, children, siblings, parents, grandparents and legal representatives. We order certificates for the families we serve at $30 each, which for a Ridgefield family saves a forty-mile round trip as well as the order fee.
How do I publish a newspaper obituary in Ridgefield?
North Clark County is covered by The Reflector, a weekly now based at 209 E Main Street in Battle Ground. It is worth knowing that the paper was founded in Ridgefield in 1909 and only moved to Battle Ground in 1959. They run a weekly death notices column and accept obituaries from families as well as from funeral homes, with verification. The number is 360-687-5151.
The Columbian in Vancouver publishes death notices free of charge through its own submission form, and sells fuller obituaries separately. Neither paper publishes a rate card, so you will need to call for a figure on anything paid.

What are the laws for scattering ashes in Washington?
Washington does have a statute on this, RCW 68.50.130, and it is more permissive than the wording first suggests. After cremation, ashes may be scattered on private property with the owner’s consent, and on public land or water with the approval of the agency that controls it. Keeping ashes at home, dividing them among family members, or burying them is not restricted at all.
Scattering at sea is available through us for $195.
A note on the wildlife refuge, since families ask. The Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge is federal land, and scattering on federal land requires permission from the managing agency rather than being a matter of personal choice. The Cathlapotle Plankhouse site is sacred to the Chinookan people whose village stood there and is currently closed to the public. Please ask the refuge before assuming either is available.
Where can ashes be interred in Ridgefield?
Northwood Park Cemetery and Mausoleum at 16407 NE 15th Avenue is the main option in town, offering columbarium niches, urn burial and scattering, and it markets itself as the only indoor mausoleum in Clark County. The number is 360-574-4252. They do not publish niche prices, so ask.
Ridgefield Cemetery on Cemetery Road off South Hillhurst is owned and run by the City of Ridgefield, which publishes a cemetery information packet and a plot application. The city contact is 360-857-5005. Whether they currently take cremated remains is not stated in the city’s material, so call before you count on it.
We do not sell cemetery property and take no commission on it, so you are free to arrange this directly with whichever cemetery you choose.
What help is available with Ridgefield cremation costs?

Veterans and their dependents may receive some benefits. Willamette National Cemetery is the Veterans cemetery nearest to Ridgefield.
