Steven Paul Swarthout of Sammamish, Washington State passed away unexpectedly on September 1, 2025. He was born on January 21, 1956 in Rochester, New York to the late Dr. Paul F. Swarthout Jr. and Barbara (Klippel).

He was a loving brother to Christine Tremper (Michael), Susan Van Gorden, and David Swarthout (predeceased). His family grew after his father’s marriage to Dr. Patricia Miller which included three brothers: Brian Miller (Jeannie), Jeff Miller (predeceased) and Bruce Miller (predeceased).

He lived in the Washington area most of his adult life sharing close gatherings with his mother Barbara, Aunt Jo Ashley (predeceased) and cousins Johanna Ashley Nye (Roger), Carol Ashley (Jim) and Mike Ashley (predeceased).

He is also survived by his good friend, Isla Dodd (Dana) and nephews living in New York State.

Steven was a good professional house painter. He often did interior/exterior paint jobs with his brother David. He is remembered as generous, fun loving and overall nice guy. He loved cooking good food, playing the guitar and cats.

His burial will be held, at a later time, at Second Milo Cemetery in Penn Yan, New York.

Flowers are gratefully declined. In Steven’s memory donations can be made to the SPCA.
