Margaret Jayne Sumner passed away in Brier, Washington, on December 29, 2025. She had been dealing with the effects of vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. She was seventy-five.
Margaret, who went by Jayne, was born on January 25, 1950, in Abington, Pennsylvania, to Alfred and Mildred Kennedy. She graduated from Pennsylvania State University and worked
first as an elementary-school teacher and later for most of her working life as a nurse in Colorado, Florida, and Washington.
An avid Penn State and Philadelphia sports fan, a drinker of tea, and a lover of dogs, Jayne also enjoyed reading and learning about her family history. Highlights of her travels included trips to
Scotland and Ireland.
Jayne was the mother of three—Rob, Brian, and Hilary Sumner—and the grandmother of Ella and Ian Sumner.
Jayne is survived by family including her sisters Nancy Tatko (Ray) Sue Brooks (Bill), her sons Rob (Esther) and Brian (Alex), and her grandchildren Ella and Ian. She possessed a quick wit and a kind heart, and she is dearly loved and missed
