John Roland Miller, beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, and lover of life, passed from this earth on Dec 1st, 2023. Born on a farm in rural Montana in April of 1932, John’s formative years were spent in Grays Harbor County in the Quinault and Hoquiam areas, where he was affectionately given the nick name of Pug. In 1957 he married the love of his life, Linda Chestnut. In early 1963 John and Linda and their two kids moved to Alaska to experience the final frontier. It’s here that they rode out the big Alaska quake, enjoyed the great outdoors with hunting, fishing, & camping, and forged many lasting friendships. John worked as a tire man for the Good Year Company, and on the Alaska Pipeline. He was an expert in his field earning the professional title of “retrograde specialist”. In 1974 John and his family moved back to their roots and settled in Olympia WA. They bought an old 1900 farmhouse on a couple of acres, and lovingly renovated it throughout the years. This is where they lived for 45 years and enjoyed gardening, refurbishing classic cars, and woodworking in the large barn/shop/garage. John is survived by his wife Linda, children, Johnny (Barb), Valerie (Paul), Marilyn, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. John will be remembered for his joyful spirit, twinkling eyes, charismatic smile, and loving heart. All who knew him were inspired and touched by his infectious, positive attitude. He will be greatly missed. The man who, when asked how he was, always replied “Almost Perfect!”
