Hugh (Skip) William Somerton passed away May 26, 2020. Jessie, his loving wife of 69 years, survived him by 111 days, reuniting with him on September 14, 2020. They had six children, Jane Somerton (Kate Muldoon); Helen Campbell (John); Beth Young (Craig); Carl Somerton; Wesley Somerton (Laura); Julie Weisgerber (Phillip); many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by brother Henry Somerton and sister Catherine Drew.

Hugh spent his life serving his communities including: past Post Commander of the Cascade, Idaho American Legion Post; a Master Mason from Oriental Lodge 60 in Boise, Idaho; Masonic Lodge 93 Secretary in McCall, ID; Ionionic Lodge 81 in Cascade, ID; El Korah Shriner, Boise, ID; a licensed insurance agent for over 50 years; business owner; real estate broker; instrumental in the creation of the Payette River Scenic Byway; member of the Donnelly Merchants’ Association; chair for the Valley County, Idaho Planning and Zoning Board; board member of the North Lake Sewer District – Valley County, ID; past member with Boise YMCA; appointed to the law enforcement advisory board by Governor Andrus; served over 20 years with the Army National Guard; Boy Scout Master.

Hugh was an enthusiastic gardener winning countless fair ribbons. His last gardening triumph was to create lovely potted plants and flower beds that brightened the days of those living at the Sequoia Assisted Living Facility. He was a three-time cancer survivor. He enjoyed cooking and sharing this passion with his grandchildren.

Many thanks to the Sequoia Assisted Living Facility, and Hospice. Interment and services will be at Holmes Cemetery in Donnelly, ID at a later date.
